Why nutrition?
Let’s say you had a car that you wash and wax every week, you check tyre pressures and lights. All looks good, or so it seems, because in your attempt to maintain what you see, you totally neglect the engine. You fail to check oil levels and put low quality fuel in the tank. The result will be a car that will not run smoothly, you may have to replace parts and sooner rather than later your engine will fail.
This is of course is an analogy for what will happen if we choose the wrong fuel for ourselves.
So what is the optimum fuel for our bodies?
Firstly, forget about what you have been told through marketing. Secondly, forget about the studies that have been funded by the food industry. Whilst there may be truth in some of this information, it leaves doubt and confusion. Let us focus on randomised controlled trials and cohort studies such as The China Study which ran from 2008-2013. Then look at the blue zone diets. These are areas in the world that have the healthiest longest lived populations, such as Okinawa. Finally let’s consider the fact that the traditional diets of many long lived civilistaions allowed for a life without our modern diseases. When we put all this infomation together we find that the one diet, the optimal diet for our bodies that not only makes us feel and look amazing, it has been proven, not only to prevent but actually reverse our number one killer (heart disease). This diet is a whole foods plant based diet based mainly around starch.
